Bumble Unveils New Tools for Safer, Smarter Dating

Why I Got Rid of My Tesla After Just 3 Months

I got rid of my Tesla after three months. Not because it wasn’t a great car – it was. The acceleration? Unmatched. The tech? Brilliant. From hyper-detailed parking cameras to cruise control that basically drives for you, and the on-screen person/car/truck detection that wowed every passenger. But the charging? A waking nightmare. I live in a London flat – no driveway, no home charger, and the lamp post chargers on my street required an unavailable BP card. White City’s so-called “easy” superchargers? Took me multiple car parks, three apps, and a near breakdown on 6% battery to find. Even at my parents’ house, a full charge took over 24 hours. And don’t get me started on the phone key – supposedly smart, but I was constantly convinced I’d left the car unlocked. Yes, it’s cheaper to run. Yes, it's eco. But the stress and inconvenience cancelled it all out. I loved the Tesla. I just couldn’t live with it.

Bumble, the women-first dating app, has unveiled a suite of new features designed to empower its global community with safer, more meaningful connections. The latest updates include Discover, ID Verification, Share Date, and an expanded Review Before You Send feature — all aimed at helping users connect authentically while enhancing their safety on the app.

These innovations respond to the growing demand for compatibility and safety in online dating. Recent Bumble research revealed that 92% of Gen-Z respondents in the UK said it’s important for them to connect with people who share their interests and values, while nearly 3 in 4 (74%) identified safety features as a deciding factor in choosing which dating apps to use.

Discover: Finding Deeper Compatibility

Bumble’s new Discover feature introduces a personalised way to find compatible connections. Refreshed daily, Discover groups potential matches into categories based on shared interests, dating intentions, and community preferences. By updating interest badges, selecting dating goals, and completing their profile, members can continuously refine their Discover feed to display more relevant profiles.

Bumble’s research shows that 60% of women in the UK prioritise finding mutual interests, values, and intentions before committing to a first date, making Discover a valuable addition to the platform.

ID Verification: Strengthening Safety Standards

Bumble’s commitment to safety is further reinforced through ID Verification, allowing members to submit a government-issued ID to confirm their identity. A verification badge appears on verified profiles, offering added confidence to potential matches. Members can also filter profiles to connect only with ID-verified users or request verification from a match.

Safety remains a top priority, with 82% of Gen-Z users saying they are more likely to go on a date with someone whose profile is ID verified. Additionally, 77% emphasised that knowing a match is truthful about their identity is critical in their decision to engage on a dating app. ID Verification is now available in major markets, including the US, UK, Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Germany, India, Mexico, and New Zealand, with more countries to follow.

Share Date: Keeping Loved Ones Informed

To provide an extra layer of security, Bumble introduces Share Date, allowing users to share essential date details — such as who they’re meeting, when, and where — with a trusted contact directly through the app. If plans change, members can update their contact in real time.

Research shows that 76% of women regularly inform a friend or family member of their date plans, highlighting the importance of this feature in fostering peace of mind.

Review Before You Send: Promoting Kind Connections

Bumble is also expanding Review Before You Send, an in-app feature that prompts users to reconsider potentially inappropriate messages before sending. Originally launched for the Compliments feature, this tool is now available for all chat conversations, giving senders an opportunity to edit flagged messages.

During testing, 40% of users who received a notification opted to revise their message, demonstrating the feature’s effectiveness in promoting respectful interactions. An overwhelming 95% of survey respondents agree that dating apps should actively prevent inappropriate behaviour, and 94% emphasise the importance of ensuring a respectful environment on dating platforms.

A Continued Commitment to Safe and Respectful Dating

These new features align with Bumble’s core mission of fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful space for everyone. All features are available for free to Bumble’s global community.
