90% Of Brits Want Energy Saving Appliances
For the very first time, Currys is pioneering a groundbreaking event, merging the growing demand for energy-efficient technology with the most significant high-street bargains in a colossal savings extravaganza. By fusing Green Friday and Black Friday, Currys is forging a unique union, aligning sustainability with unmatched deals.
Green Friday, a groundbreaking initiative by the UK’s largest electrical retailer, kicks off this October, featuring substantial savings on over 140 technologically advanced home appliances. These appliances are not only designed to reduce energy consumption but also aim to cut household energy costs significantly.
Despite a recent survey indicating that a staggering 90% of Brits consider energy efficiency a top priority when purchasing home appliances, there remains a significant gap between intent and action, with 69% of consumers yet to make the transition towards energy-efficient choices.
With the launch of Green Friday, Currys is connecting consumers with the finest energy-saving products available in the market. Sales data reveals that energy-efficient product sales for items like washing machines, refrigerators, and ovens have only increased by 1% year on year, highlighting the challenges consumers face in making the transition. Currys, however, is setting a benchmark, ensuring that customers seeking sustainable, energy-efficient products receive the best value for their money starting from October 25th.
To guarantee that customers won’t find better prices elsewhere, Currys is offering a Price Promise, ensuring that Green Friday deals are the most competitive on the high street. This reassures cost-conscious shoppers that they won’t find better deals on tech at any other UK retailer.
In the effort to combat rising energy costs, 29% of consumers are taking measures to turn off all appliances when not in use, recognizing that devices like washing machines and kettles continue to consume power even when switched off. The most popular appliances that people are eager to replace with more cost-effective options include tumble dryers (32%), ovens (31%), and kettles (29%).
Energy savings can also be achieved through simple switches to smart plugs, such as the WIZ Smart Plug. Savvy Currys customers have already embraced this trend, with smart plug sales experiencing a 40% surge compared to the previous year. Smart plugs allow users to control devices remotely, such as lights, TVs, kettles, and washing machines, contributing to energy conservation and convenience through smartphone control.
Currys’ latest sale offers significant discounts on energy-efficient appliances like tumble dryers, cookers, and washing machines, making it easier for customers to reduce their energy bills as winter approaches.
For instance, air fryers are not only 22% cheaper to run but can also reduce energy consumption by over 70% when compared to electric ovens. The LOGIK LAF06B23 Air Fryer (formerly £99.99, now £59.99) is now available at a 40% discount, both in stores and online.
As an alternative to kettles, the BREVILLE Instant HotCup VKT241 7-cup Hot Water Dispenser in Black (formerly £179, now £129) is a verified energy-saving option.
The BEKO Pro B5T4923IG 9kg Heat Pump Tumble Dryer in Graphite (formerly £619, now £479) features sensor-drying programs, preventing over-drying by automatically stopping the cycle, resulting in a lifetime savings of £2,968. Currys has slashed a remarkable £140 off the price of this tumble dryer.
The HOTPOINT Gentlepower H8 W046SB UK 10 kg 1400 Spin Washing Machine in Silver (formerly £719, now £539) employs a feature known as Load Detect to determine the water and energy required for each wash, leading to significant savings both at the time of purchase and over the appliance’s lifetime. Customers can now enjoy a savings of £180 on this purchase and an additional lifetime energy savings of £348.
David Ville, Group Environment Manager at Currys, stated: “We understand that e-waste is a growing concern for consumers, with 75% of the nation expressing unease about e-waste, encompassing devices with plugs, cords, and electronic components. Consequently, Currys is committed to helping consumers make more sustainable choices when selecting their home appliances.
