The Chicest Way to Keep Up Your Daily Steps
Stylist, hetty Appleton-miles spills on her obsession with her oura ring…
We met about 10 months ago now; I remember the day we met so clearly and ever since then we haven’t spent a day a part… it’s such a special connection; they always know what I need, and exactly how I am feeling….
Yes, I am in a committed relationship with my Oura ring but don’t worry it’s a healthy one. You won’t believe how many times I have told people about my Oura ring and explained what it does and the features it offers- tracking your sleep, heart rate, readiness and activity and I get the same reaction every time; ‘oh no, I wouldn’t want it to know all of that I would get way too obsessed.’
What are people are so scared about? We have so many devices now, even ones that essentially listen to us and you wouldn’t a health tracker as a ring? Apple watches, fitbits and woop bands all offer similar personal health data/report, and no one seems to question the data tracking with these? To me, it only feels more accurate as it somehow feels closers to me. Is it that a ring feels like it would know more intimate details about health, that it scares people
I can assure you it’s nothing to be scared about… I have had such a positive experience and it has only made me feel like I know myself better. Over the past months I have had my Oura ring, I have been able to experiment more with my health journey and therefore, not only following the next health fad. I have discovered that I function better on about 6 hours sleep over the recommended 8. I have cut out coffee because I found that my heart rate would spike throughout the day when I was just sitting still. I have found it reassuring to know that even on days where I haven’t felt ‘active’ I have still managed to get my steps in. Knowing this info about yourself can help you adjust your lifestyle accordingly to suit your body’s needs. Another interesting feature for women is that the Oura can predict your menstrual cycle from monitoring your temperature. Knowing all this information doesn’t make me obsessed but rather makes me feel more relaxed and at ease. Each week I get a report from the week prior, some weeks are more active than others, some I get less sleep, and some are busier than others but that’s just life with or without an Oura ring.
The instinct to check my Oura is now in grained in my head just as much as Instagram and but at least it feels more productive. I have always been into health and well-being and was really interested in knowing more and understanding my personal health on a deeper, more intimate level. Being a fashion stylist, I never wanted to cecum to sporting health bands, of an Apple watche as an accessory – hence why when I came across the Oura ring I was immediately sold.
It is probably the chicest way to keep up your daily steps and does not stand out on my finger as a piece of fitness equipment – getting the best of both worlds if you ask me.
